One of the reasons my wife, Sandra, and I moved here from L.A. almost 7 years ago was to find some of that slow Southern way of life.
We’re still looking…
Busy summer, no?
One of the things I’ve done is getting myself attached to the new Henderson Art Gallery in downtown Greenville. Formerly the LC Gallery, the Henderson Gallery is a fun, funky little basement space beneath Bellacino’s restaurant, directly across from the Poinsett Hotel on Main. Nice location! Artist Elizabeth Henderson and her husband, Carl are updating and refurbishing the place. Space is opened up for painters, photographers, sculptures, and jewelry makers—some local, some from out-of-state. There’s a good variety of quality work. I’m happy to be amongst them. There’s even a little spot in the back where kid’s arts and crafts classes will be held.
The Gallery opening last month attracted more than 300 people. An average of one hundred, fifty to two hundred visitors descend the stairs weekly to check out the art. More on a busy downtown weekend! Elizabeth and Carl are planning several receptions (including a fund-raiser for Ronald McDonald House) into the fall months. Take a look next time you’re in the neighborhood. Or, let me know and I’ll get you on the list to receive notifications of upcoming events.
It’s exciting being part of a fun new place for art in Greenville!

Your work looks great, Skip… Congratulations! Next time we are downtown we’ll stop in and see it in person.
