Baby, It’s Foggy Outside

Fog is one of God’s Photoshop filters. It transforms the way things look. I walk to the barn early every morning to feed the horses. Same walk every day. Except when it’s foggy. Everything is quieter. Even the colors. There are no shadows or highlights. Things are flattened. Patterns and details are blurred into simple shapes. I tend to focus down on these foggy days, see the smaller details close by. Bigger things are pushed away behind screens of mist.  It’s a whole different journey then.

The silhuette of an old apple tree traces a fine web across the flattened solid shape of the woods behind.

Myrtle trees at the edge of the field become cross-hatched black lines on a flat gray ground.
