The thing about being a visual person is that if I look at something long enough, I gotta paint it.

This is the view outside my office door at work. I see it five days a week. In the mornings, the sun backlights the old birch tree and spatters sunlight all over the deck.

For me, the fun in painting it was playing off the brightly colored, abstracted pattern of the foliage against a more muted, representational rendition of the deck.
