This past Friday/Saturday was MAC‘s annual Flat Out Under Pressure art competition. Participating artists have 24 hours to create something. Artists bring their canvases (or in my case, bits of scrap plywood) to the MAC office in downtown Greenville to be stamped Friday morning. The finished pieces are due Saturday morning. It’s 24 hours of flat-out hard work. And fun! I indulge the time trying out things I haven’t done before. I experiment. The above is the result of my experimentation this year.
FOUP is modeled after a similar competition in Cortona, Italy. First prize is a trip to Cortona, Italy. Sixty-eight artists went for it this year. I am among the sixty-seven who will not be going to Italy. Yea winner! (I did a couple of years ago! Yea, me!) Part of the fun is seeing the results. I’m continually amazed at the variety and high quality of art created literally overnight. A show of all the pieces is being held at the MAC gallery through August 1. Drop in and be amazed.
