My wife says one of the most peaceful sounds you can hear is a horse munching hay. That’s true. But it’s not simple. First, you have to get close enough to an animal that outweighs you by a thousand pounds to hear him munch. It’s not a loud sound. Most importantly, that large animal has to trust you enough to let you get close to him. Horses are smart. He knows you probably eat meat. And he knows he is meat. Now, you probably have no intention of eating horse. But horses don’t take chances. There’s always another green pasture he can munch in. It’s an honor to be allowed that close to a horse. Then you have to be quiet. And still. And then he will let you listen.
