Still Lifes (Lives?)

Here’s a couple of little paintings of some simple little plants. I’ve executed them in a looser, brushier style than I usually work in. The emphasis is on composition and color.

What caught my attention with these arrangements is their casual, almost absentminded non-arrangement. These are cuttings from other pots stuck in water or a “nursery” pot to be more thoughtfully arranged later. There’s a rough elegance to them. Hence, the rough treatment.
