You never see the same thing twice.
Here’s a series of quickly painted acrylic and colored pencil sketches of a lily on 4″ x 6″ cards. The idea was to catch something of the abstract shapes the flowers suggested against the dark background, not reproduce its image. Freed from a literal interpretation, my eye caught different things with each application. Sometimes, I looked at the shape of the flower; sometimes, the negative space. Different results every time.
