Beale Street

Here’s some photos I took on a trip to Memphis a while back. Beale Street is known as the “Home of the Blues” and, with Sun Recording Studios a few blocks away, a significant site in the birth of rock ‘n roll. Listed on the National Historic Registry, it is a well-cultivated tourist area that retains much of its original flavor. We arrived late on a summer night after a long day’s drive. But not so late that we didn’t enjoy some fine music and Southern cuisine—if you savor catfish and pulled pork.

BB King got his start on Beale Street. This is his original club.

Before leaving, we had lunch at the Blues Cafe. Did not disappoint!

Quiet early morning.

Lots of ticky-tacky touristy shops. Fun!
