FOUP 2020

Bound & Determined, 24″ x 24″. acrylic on plywood., crochet thread

This year’s Flat Out Under Pressure event was held virtually. Arts communities worldwide have been hit hard by the COVID epidemic. MAC (Greenville’s Metropolitan Arts Council) estimates that by year end, our local arts community will lose over $3 million. And so I truly appreciate the extent to which they’ve gone to protect our health.

Normally FOUP, artists must gather on the designated Friday morning to have their canvas(es) time-stamped. We have 24 hours to create… something. And then return with our pieces the following Saturday morning. This year, we never left our studios. We were required, on the designated Friday morning, to email time-stamped photos of our surface(s) and return photos of our work this morning.

Time-stamped surfaces.

My completed piece is at top. Note my signature and date/time left unpainted on the lower left. Because the time-stamp for the affixed surface is on the back, I had to txt a video of me showing the back and then turning it over for verification. So with COVID, just a little more pressure to be flat out under.
